Redeeming the Wii

February 25, 2010

In general I can’t stand video games but somehow a wii made it into our house this year. We have some pretty strict limitations on use… only after school AND chores are done can the wii be used, and ONLY for the time alloted.  Only fairly active games are allowed – no sit on the [...]

Read Alouds

February 22, 2010

This week I’m making a focused effort to get back into the habit of daily read-alouds.  Somehow we let read-alouds fall by the wayside as the kids started getting older and our oldest graduated last year.  I sure miss our daily reading time and so do the kids – yes, our teenage kids! Where did [...]

You know you’re a homeschooler when… 1

February 13, 2010

You know you’re a homeschooler when you ponder whether or not planning your daughter’s high school course of study is considered “work” and should be done on Sunday or not…

More Celebration!

February 11, 2010

Wow – even more reason to celebrate this week!  My oldest daughter is now certified to teach piano through Simply Music, which she is thrilled about.  This week is also the A Year That Counts women’s expo and I have my first ever workshop!  Whoohoo! We’re back to school after a week’s break.  I love [...]

Celebrations and Green Hair!

February 8, 2010

What a Sunday.  Church, business meeting, boys’ chess tournament, our family’s version of the Super Bowl (Dad vs The Kids on the wii) and pizza.  Fun! What wasn’t quite as amusing is my hair story… to celebrate finishing the recording of my workshop for Cindy Rushton’s upcoming women’s expo, I decided to do my hair.  [...]

Defining Terms

February 7, 2010

This week at Mom’s No Chaos Zone I’m going to be defining some terms – like what in the world I mean when I throw around words like “time management”, “manager of the home”, “priorities”, and “balance.”   These words are used so often and in so many different ways they start to lose their meaning.  [...]

Calendula

January 20, 2010

I love it when the seed catalogs start coming in!  I’m making my gardening plans already. One thing I’m going to grow for sure this year is calendula.  Calendula is also called pot marigold but is no relation.  It’s about the same color as marigolds, in all shades of yellow and orange, but the flowers [...]

Cold in Kansas

January 8, 2010

It is SO cold here in Kansas!  We’ve dropped to below zero the last several nights and that’s NOT counting the wind chill!  Today’s high is a whopping 4 degrees. Tonight is supposed to get to -9 then it’s supposed to start warming  up, maybe all the way past freezing… break out the suntan lotion, [...]

Snow ice cream!

January 1, 2010

We’ve really have a lot of snow for the time of year!  My daughter made the biggest snowman yesterday — look at the top of the page to see it.  I don’t know how she did it – it was as big as she is, but then again I shouldn’t be surprised….she never does anything [...]

Crochet Wash Cloths

December 23, 2009

Christmas is almost here!  If you need a quick gift and like to crochet, (or would like to learn) crochet washcloths are perfect.  Washcloths are a fun project for beginners and children since they are small and “doable.”  Every time I give these as gifts people go crazy over them.  They can be used as either [...]

New Critter

December 16, 2009

I love it when a science project finds us.  On the way down to the basement to rotate laundry a few weeks ago I found a snake laying halfway down the stairs. It was a miserable critter – skinny, getting ready to shed, and a dust bunny was stuck to its head.  My younger daughter [...]

Crock Pot Turkey Breast

December 5, 2009

Here’s great crock pot recipe in our home… I just love using the crock pot when it starts getting cold outside.  A simmering fragrant crock pot makes the whole house cozy somehow.  We got a nice turkey breast and I wanted a low-hassle way to prepare it so I tried this, based on a recipe [...]
